Pet Dragon Info:
I have a Rankin's dragon named Juan.
Does anyone know how to tell the age of a Rankins dragon? I got mine a couple of months ago and the pet store wasn't sure how old he was. I see lots of stuff online about how to tell the age of a bearded dragon, but nothing about Rankin's.

Hi,

Assuming that this is a 'true' Rankins Dragon and not a Vittikins (a cross between a Bearded Dragon and a Rankins Dragon) a rough approximation can be made from the length (snout to tip of tail) and weight (in grams). If you can post these I'll try and give you my best approximation.

Best regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

I took his measurements and his length from snout to tail is 21.5cm, and his weight is 57g.

Kind regards,
Ben.

Hi Ben,

Based on the length sounds like he's an adult, so > 1 year. They top out around 10" and take about 2 years to get there (similar to a Beardie) though I've had some get there quicker. The weight is definitely in the right ballpark for a Rankins too. I think the best suggestion I have to offer is to monitor his length and weight over the next 6 months and check back again with an update. If he's a Vittikins you can expect an increase that will likely be noticeable, especially with regards to weight. If he's a fully grown Rankins there would be little change.

Hope this helps,
Mark
