Hi,

Some of you may have noticed that I haven't been posting to the Board much recently.

I was made redundant from my job at the beginning of January, so most of my attention has been focused on looking for a job.

On a brighter note, I accepted an offer this morning, so I hope to be back in the workplace again soon :D :D :D

Best regards,
Mark

Hi Mark,

Sorry to hear about the redundancy, I had wondered if all was well.

Many Congratulations on the new job, that's great news! :D I hope you enjoy it and settle in easily.
We never know what's around the corner do we and some things in retrospect turn out to be blessings in disguise. I hope it is the case for you on this occasion.

Best wishes,
Catherine

Thanks Terri,

It's a huge relief :D

James,

I'm a technical instructor/project manager in IT. I used to teach Microsoft, Cisco and A+ certification classes but these days I'm working in healthcare. The job I just landed is with the University of Washington as a Clinical Informatics Educator.

Best regards,
Mark

Taught it!? I did cisco 1 and 2 when I was in college last, I did my whole level two in it network support and found it uhm tedious by the end of it wouldnt like to go into it as a career really!

Glad you found your feet and got yourself a job quite quickly, whats it like finding work in the states?

Hi James,

I used to do a lot of labs for the CCNA. We'd bring in some trashed routers (messed up config files, lost passwords etc) and have the students get in there, update the firmware, edit the config files and get used to TFTP, then we'd start messing with the IOS. It helps if you can turn the theory into practice :)

The job market here in Seattle is starting to pick up. We are fortunate to be surrounded by tech. Microsoft is not far from my house, neither is Boeing, Google and FaceBook, so if you're in the tech field things are definitely getting better. Obama's Healthcare Reform Act has meant that there are a lot more tech jobs in hospitals these days too, which is great for me because I started my IT career in healthcare in the UK.

All the best,
Mark
