When I first got into lizards, back in the late 90's, sites like this did not exist. We were mostly breeders and enthusiasts communicating via something known as a 'listserv' (e-mail for want of a better description).

My focus back then was Bearded Dragons. Unlike today, you couldn't just walk into a pet shop and buy one, they were sold by breeders and could be quite hard to track down. The Bearded Dragon listserv became a second home for me and I learned as much as I could from the folks there. In particular, I had the pleasure of interacting with Kathryn Tosney, Ronnie Buck, Cheri Smith and Bill Mears on a regular basis.

Sadly Bill passed away back in 2005 but I just came across an old article on Cheri's site that I thought I'd share here, partly because it involves Bill but mostly because it shows how amazing nature can be. Bill lived up in Canada and bred Bearded Dragons. He had a separate room in his house for them all. The story starts a few months after his death:

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

Best regards,
Mark

What a lovely story and a fitting tribute to the man you've described that people came together to care for his babies. Thanks for posting it Mark.
